Cisco Live 2019 Tips
Cisco Live 2019 - Tips
It's no secret I love Cisco Live, formerly Cisco Networkers. I have been attending since 2005. Cisco Live 2019 will be in San Diego, CA from June 9th-13th. This is my favorite location for Cisco Live.
Here is my short list of things to pack:
- Bring comfortable shoes (activity tracker)
- Bring a light coat
- Participate (social media, devnet, etc.)
If you are lucky enough to get a hotel in walking distance you never need any transportation other than your feet. This year I am about a mile away so I might still walk but I'll need to plan a little extra travel time.
The other thing to keep in mind though is that these convention center venues are HUGE so you will be walking to get between sessions, keynotes, and the world of solutions.
In addition to that. If you are an office worker and seldom walk. I like to have an activity tracker to see how much more active I am during this week than a regular work week. It is pretty crazy. 50,000 steps shouldn't be out of the question.
While the majority of the time will be spent indoors the coastal breeze in the evening can be chilly, even in June! There are several events that will likely be outdoors such as the customer appreciation event (CAE), now called the Cisco Live Celebration. (I don't handle change well!! :))
Even if you will be surrounded by 25,000 of your closest friends pack a light coat.
Like all things in life you usually get out what you put in them. Cisco Live is no different. The social media hub is a place to meet new people and old friends alike. Participate in the contests by either blogging or tweeting. There is also the #CLUS correspondent for the individual that posts the most interesting and relevant social media content.
There will also be opportunities to volunteer while. Considering doing something to help others.
Devnet has been growing each year and I expect this year will be no different. This area is full of additional learning opportunities. Participate!
Bonus - backpacks
While everyone with a full registration gets a bag I suggest you bring one of your own. Something small that doesn't look like the other 20,000 bags everyone else has. This serves two purposes. The first is that if you set your bag down you won't get lost in the sea of look-alike bags. The second is that I find I prefer a much smaller bag.
I also have been refusing the bag for the last several years. Cisco will typically donate backpacks to local children in need. Do you really need another new backpack?
I hope to see you at Cisco Live 2019. It is a great educational and networking event. The only way to make the most of it is to participate. Get out of your bubble and introduce yourself to someone new. Discuss the ideas that you find interesting and listen and learn from others. Remember you only get out what you put in. Now go ahead and REGISTER for Cisco Live 2019!
